Where the Choice Begins
When an adult patient comes in asking about bite correction, our first step is a full orthodontic assessment: photos, X-rays and occlusal analysis. Only then can we talk about specific options. Braces and aligners address a similar range of problems, but the mechanics and lifestyle during treatment are quite different.
Braces: Proven and Predictable
A fixed metal bracket system is the most predictable tool in the orthodontist's kit. Because the patient cannot remove it, results do not depend on compliance. At iDent metal braces for one jaw cost UAH 20,000, ceramic braces UAH 25,000, and self-ligating metal braces UAH 35,000. Activation and adjustment visits start from UAH 1,200. Average treatment time is 18–24 months.
- Pros: effective for any level of complexity, lower entry cost.
- Cons: visible on the teeth, more demanding oral hygiene, possible archwire discomfort.
- Aesthetic option: ceramic or sapphire brackets — nearly invisible.
Aligners: Discreet and Convenient
Aligners are a series of clear removable trays that move teeth step by step according to a computer-generated plan. They come out for meals and brushing, so hygiene stays easy. To get started at iDent you need an aligner diagnostics and treatment planning session at UAH 10,400. If you are considering Invisalign, the dedicated diagnostics cost UAH 25,500.
- Pros: virtually invisible, removable, simple oral hygiene.
- Cons: must be worn 20–22 hours per day; higher total cost for complex cases.
- Not ideal for: severe skeletal discrepancies, significant molar rotations.
I do not divide patients into "braces people" and "aligner people" — I look at the clinical picture. Mild crowding in an adult who needs the treatment to go unnoticed? Aligners are a great fit. A complex occlusal anomaly? Braces give far greater control. Sometimes I combine both methods to get the best outcome.

After Braces or Aligners Come Off
Every orthodontic treatment ends with a retention phase. Teeth need time to consolidate their new positions — this is achieved with a removable retainer (UAH 2,500) or a fixed bonded retainer (UAH 2,500). Skipping this stage risks relapse.
