Periodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the tissues that surround and support the teeth: the gums, periodontal ligaments and alveolar bone. Periodontal disease is one of the most common causes of tooth loss in adults. At the same time, when caught early these conditions respond well to treatment and can be halted before irreversible damage occurs.

At iDent clinic, periodontal treatment follows a step-by-step protocol: we begin with a detailed periodontal chart that records pocket depths, recession levels and tooth mobility at six points per tooth. A course of treatment is then prescribed — ranging from professional scaling to vector therapy. All work is performed on modern equipment, and outcomes are reassessed 6–8 weeks after the active phase is complete.

Indications for periodontal treatment

  • Gums that bleed during brushing or eating
  • Swollen, red or tender gum margins
  • A feeling of tooth looseness or a change in bite
  • Persistent bad breath that does not resolve with good hygiene
  • Exposed tooth necks or visible gum recession
  • Pus discharge from gum pockets when pressed
  • Preparation for dental implants or prosthetics

How periodontal treatment works at iDent

1

Periodontal charting and diagnostics

The clinician measures pocket depths at six sites per tooth, records recession, mobility and bleeding. A 3D scan on the PaX-i3D Smart CT is ordered where needed to assess bone levels. The result is a detailed baseline chart used to monitor treatment progress.

2

Supragingival scaling (Phase 1)

An ultrasonic scaler removes supragingival and partially subgingival calculus. This is the essential first step — calculus is the primary driver of ongoing inflammation and prevents the gum from reattaching to the tooth surface.

3

Subgingival scaling and root planing (Phases 2–3)

Using hand curettes and ultrasonic tips, the clinician debrides root surfaces within deep pockets. This is followed by deep fluoride application to strengthen root cementum. Where inflammation persists after scaling, vector therapy is prescribed.

4

Review appointment and supportive therapy

After 6–8 weeks the clinician re-probes the pockets and compares measurements against the baseline chart. Depending on the outcome, supportive periodontal therapy is scheduled every 3–6 months. Regular maintenance visits are the key to keeping your teeth for decades.

Why choose iDent for periodontal care

  • Our own generator keeps treatment running even during power outages
  • PaX-i3D Smart 3D diagnostics shows bone status before treatment begins
  • Vector device — a certified non-surgical technique with no incisions
  • Periodontal chart stored in your patient file, available at every follow-up visit
  • Open daily 9:00–20:00, no days off — ideal for busy patients
  • Clinic located near Darnytsia railway station, 14 Pryvokzalna St., Kyiv

Periodontal disease often develops without obvious symptoms: bleeding is mistaken for normal, and gum recession is attributed to ageing. In reality these are signals that demand prompt attention. Delaying treatment by a year or two can transform reversible gingivitis into chronic periodontitis with irreversible bone loss. Book a periodontal examination — we will give you an honest assessment of your gum health and outline exactly what needs to be done.

Frequently asked questions

At mild and moderate stages, periodontitis responds very well to treatment: after a course of scaling, inflammation resolves and pocket depths reduce. At advanced stages the goal is to halt progression and preserve the teeth. The key to long-term success is regular supportive therapy every 3–6 months.

Subgingival scaling and vector therapy are both performed under local anaesthesia. Most patients report minimal discomfort or none at all. Some sensitivity around the tooth necks is possible for 1–2 days after the procedure.

Typically 3–4 visits: periodontal charting, 1–2 active treatment phases and a review appointment at 6–8 weeks. The number of vector therapy sessions depends on the areas involved. Your clinician will outline the exact plan after the initial examination.
