Removable clear trays fabricated to a personalised 3D plan on the PaX-i3D Smart. We straighten teeth without metal or wires — treatment is virtually invisible, and trays are removed for eating and brushing.
Book a consultationAligners are a series of clear, removable trays made from thin medical-grade polymer that gradually move teeth toward the planned position, typically with a tray change every one to two weeks. Each tray represents one small step within an overall treatment plan designed digitally before treatment begins.
Unlike braces, aligners are nearly invisible: a person standing close to you in conversation will generally not notice them. The trays are removed for eating and brushing, making oral hygiene far simpler and eliminating dietary restrictions. At iDent, aligner treatment is planned on the basis of PaX-i3D Smart 3D CT data — we assess bone and root health before proposing a plan.
The orthodontist takes a CBCT scan on the PaX-i3D Smart, a digital or silicone impression and a photographic record. A step-by-step tooth movement plan is built digitally — the patient can see the projected outcome before treatment starts.
Once the plan is approved, a series of custom trays is fabricated. Each tray provides a minimal increment of movement — typically 0.25–0.33 mm. Depending on complexity, a plan may consist of 10 to 50 or more trays.
The patient wears the trays at least 20–22 hours per day and changes them on schedule. Check-ups are every 6–8 weeks. The clinician monitors progress and adjusts the plan if needed.
After active treatment a removable retainer tray for night-time wear is fabricated. It holds the result and prevents relapse. A fixed retainer is also bonded if required.
At iDent we offer two aligner approaches.
Your orthodontist will recommend the best option after examination and 3D diagnostics.
The key condition for aligner success is patient discipline: trays must be worn for 20–22 hours a day. When this rule is followed, effectiveness is comparable to fixed braces in equivalent clinical situations. The only permissible breaks are for eating, drinking sugary beverages and brushing.
Additional benefits include no discomfort from metal brackets rubbing the cheek and far simpler oral hygiene — remove the tray, brush as normal. After treatment, most patients report that the months passed almost without noticing.
A minimum of 20–22 hours per day. Removal is permitted only for eating, drinking sugary beverages and brushing. Wearing them for less time means teeth do not move to the planned position and the entire plan shifts off-schedule. Discipline is the primary condition for aligner success.
There is no single answer: it depends on the clinical case. Aligners are superior in terms of aesthetics and hygiene convenience but require self-discipline. Braces are more effective for complex malocclusions. The iDent orthodontist will compare both options at your consultation and advise what is best for your specific bite.
Practically not. The transparent polymer is approximately 0.5 mm thick and is barely perceptible even in close conversation. Some patients notice a slight lisp in the first few days with a new tray — this disappears within 1–2 days as the tongue adapts.
